what about localization? #1203

Hi there, I am a newbie in use 'khal' and I am very happy thanks to all. I couldn't find anything about his translation, is there anything planned? I'm ready to do it in French Regards.

Currently, khal doesn't support anything translation-related. Somebody needs to do the work of wrapping all the user-facing strings in the codebase before we can make use of translated texts.

I've only used gettext for translations with Python (via Django), and it works well. It depends on the C gettext library being installed, but it's common enough that this should not be an issue.

Thanks for the info, I'll see what I can find the time to do around this subject :-)

Hello, I retired from my job some time ago and I am very interested in localization. Would You be interested in wrapping the user-facing strings by me? Cheers Peter

I think that would be a great start. Do you have a specific localisation module in mind?

Hello WhyNotHugo, As I am used to bash scripts I am a bit familiar with gettext. So I would try with gettext if You do not object. I have no experience with python scripts though (apart from consulting a python handbook), but I could try as a start with ui/utils.py, see how far that gets me and then, success assumed, go to the bigger scripts. My system is Devuan, and khal resides under /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/khal. I would clone the directory and go on. The Devuan khal version is 0.10.5, so I would not do an exact kloning but use version 0.11.2 for a start. Is that OK for You? I am German speaking (so far about localization), so please apologize for my sometimes a little bit queer English. Cheers Peter
