Updated README file documentation #19

Updated the doc for our purposes. I tried to make it a bit more generic and independent of our use case. If it's useful, please merge it in.

These instructions are useful, but I'm going to save reviewing them for inclusion for when we break out the startproject template. At that point it may make more sense to include some of this info in the general documentation.
