Have you tried a clean install of CFG? Your issues did not happen to me. Tested
a lot.

And why you have to add the German language through the config.txt? When your
default system language is German then CFG chooses it automatically. I think
there must be the bug on your settings where CFG chooses the wrong font.

Try this: remove the translations string from your config.txt, set your
systemlanguage to German and see if that helps you.

Modded a lot of Wiis and always put CFG as loader on it and have never seen
that issue on any Wii.

I can't reproduce this, to me it shows properly.
Did you edit the DE.lang file by hand by chance?
Just copy it from the full package or from lang62.zip without alteration!
Or as suggested try a clean install.
