FYi we can already do the panther. The Caribbou has an almost identical setup to the original, it just doesnt look the same. Last time I checked it did indeed have changing thrust vectors in relation to landing gear position just like the original Panther.
So I assume from your issue that the Carribou no longer does that. Someone likely broke it while trying to be clever :) I remember the original model had to be constructed in a particular way for the thrusters to work as intended.
Does that include the strength of the thrusters?
No, just point number 2 that we can do already (which has (or should have) thrust vector changes) Well, Visually of course... Our version works as I remember it from FFE; Moving the legs is a visual change and has no real change on craft handling.
But it would certainly be nice to correct that flaw :) I just got confused by your post about the panther, since we can already do a complete replica of the Frontier/FFE Panther. I obviously omitted "(or should have)" when I read your post ;)
Yeah - it's clear, though, that a Frontier-style Panther should vector is main thrust (power, not just the sweet, sweet visuals) backwards as it folds up the legs. (-:
yeah just confusion on my part :) It should work that way
Methinks, another ideal candidate for tail launching is a heavy lift variation of the Stardust.
I'm not privvy to the inner workings of LMR but couldn't you just change how the autopilot handles landing? (parameterize the axis that must face the landing pad so you can define it as y as well as the standard -z) to get a tailsitter craft?
I'm all for this, though. Having state changing thrusters opens up not only panther like ships but numerous other things like craft with different engine sets (air only SCRAMJET for hyper efficient flight in atmo only?)
Still a valid request AFAICT. Reopening.
