hints and experiences with cargo scoop #1306

so you noticed already i'm working on fitting proper cargo scoops to the ships and have of course some guessings how they should "look like", means size and position of the flagged geometry.

i experienced after a couple of tries with the "supafighter" and the "adder" that the geometry has to be at LEAST sized 5m x 5m, better would be 10m x 10m, no joke. also the position must be very ahead of the ship to get a glimpse of a chance to catch something. i experienced here 10m in front of the ship as working, better would be 20m (remeber FE2 was releasing cargo scoop even at distance of ~20m in front of the scoops mounting).

just as a hint for those who like to fit WORKING cargo scoops to the ships.

there is also a small issue with that, due to the "giant" size of the flagged geometry, which is of course part of the collision mesh, the ship will rest even higher (if a soop is mounted on bottom and you dare to have the geometry on -y) as it does anyway when it's docked (another annoying thing).

personally i suggest even a flagged geometry to determine a proper resting position on the ships wheels/UC, this would solve both issues with one approach imo.

further i'm not sure if the flagged geometry counts as part of the common collision mesh if i won't get hit easier with a plane 5mx5m in front of my ship, but i assume.

now don't tell me it's to large before you tested it yourself ;) needs a lot of patience if you do so :) ah well, relative speed should be around 1m/sec and even this is not easy to manage. watch that you choose a asteroid not to close to a large planet like a gas giant, you will never match the speed because the ships speed get's aligned with the large reference body, take one where your ship is "locked" to the asteroid. wait a liitle until the mined goods lost some speed and start then to pick them up. good luck commander. and yes i can scoop goods with the supafighter sitting (view) 9m right of center and with the little field of view left. oh, and don't fit a shield, this will "burn" the goods, even when i accidentially managed once to scoop a good with a shielded supafighter (i was to fast and thought i missed it, but had the mined good afterwards in the cargo bay), but that was luck, nothing else, any other tries with it they "vanished" before i reached 10m lol.

and if you really dare to scoop some goods, here's a "downgraded" adder that will work with a plain alpha23. (removed pilot, missiles function call and all the other new shit).

and PLEASE respect github doesn't works with my macbook, basta. no matter what you think of i'm to stupid or unwilling. or that perhaps some like to get rid of me ;)

CTRL+click on the cargo body to set your velocity relative to it. You can then use set-speed mode to make scooping easier and you don't have to worry about what frame you're in.

This the same issue as #1128.

ok good hint, but have you tried once a succeeding scooping (i did).

but with the actual ships i grant you you can't. the geometry for the cargo scoop is really far to small and to close to the ship if it's present at all.
