There is a secret preference "extensions.newtabfromlocationbar@piro.sakura.ne.jp.invertDefaultBehavior". Go to "about:config" and turn it on. Because I got many "bug reports" like "URLs are not opened in new tab when I press ALT key", I disable the feature by default.
Thanks, just what I was looking for!

In traditional FireFox, pressing "ALT" will open the URL bar in a new tab. After installing "newtabfromlocationbar", new tabs are opened by default from the URL bar (the desired behavior), but using ALT has no effect on the tab opening.
Would it be possible to add a behavior (optional, or otherwise) to allow "ALT" to open the URL bar into the current tab, basically inverting the default behavior?
