Is this because the headings are huge or because there is too much content on some slides?

The headings are huge, but it seems that following your instructions explicitly left me with a reveal.js file that didn't seem to create the appropriate sections (as I would have expected a reveal.js html file to have). I can try again to see what happened, but I think the problem came down to the reveal.js template for pandoc + some parsing ugliness.
I ended up using this pandoc template and managed to start getting things looking somewhat ok in my tests: (https://github.com/jgm/pandoc-templates/blob/master/default.revealjs)
That's where I pulled the template from... Unless it has changed in the last few days...

I may be confused then. I'll pull a fresh copy and try again (this time saving my output for comparison).
For the version of my presentation on the gh-pages branch of my fork, I tweaked the reveal.js header sizes because I thought all of them were way too big. :)
I'll try again when I get off work, following my own instructions this time.

@patdavid if you were copying my command to build the presentation, then the relative path of the pandoc template was incorrect, or at least that is what I just go when trying to build it.
Adjusting the path gave me more-or-less what I had for my presentation. It's nice if you have a 1080p screen.
I'm really confused about how our repo diverged... I'm sure it is just me.
