Hello. Firstly i want to say that it is great applet and i use it during a long time.

But it have one annoying behavior:

  1. in settings for CPU section i choose "Graph in the panel: History"
  2. block the screen or close lid laptop (that in my case the same)
  3. In 5-10 second later I start to hear the cooler and after 1-2 minutes the notebook gets hot. When i unblock it and check the processes status, i see that cinnamon has ate one core of my cpu to 100%
  4. when i choose to don't show CPU graph in panel and block screen or close lid - all works fine. Notebook is staying cool.

The second thing that i noticed: When i switch off CPU graph in panel the average cpu consumption became lower on 10%.

That's why i have to always switch off cpu graph in panel.

Currently, I can't reproduce it on my desktop system (Cinnamon 2.8.8, Applet 3.10). What versions of Cinnamon and the applet are you using?

All problems can be reproduced only on the notebook. The first laptop: Linux mint 17.3 Cinnamon 2.8.8. The second: Linux mint 18 cinnamon 3.0.x

The first notebook: Dell inspiron 3537 (with ati/intel graphic) The second: Lenovo W541 (with nvidia/intel graphic)

Tried to reproduce on my laptop system (Cinnamon 3.0.7, Applet 3.10), but still no success. The noise of the laptop is lowering when I'm locking the screen, not raising and the cinnamon process keeps at >= 5% in average.

It is correct that the applet does collect data while the screen is locked (which I'll also call a new bug), it's a bit confusing that the cpu usage is high while it is locked, as there is no much activity elsewhere in the system…

I don't know whether the problem lies there, but just for reproducing purposes, I'd like you to share your settings, a screenshot will be fine here (You can upload pictures directly on GitHub) and your version (3.10 is out just for some days, 3.9 will be the most distributed atm)

If you have enough time now, you can also play around with the settings, e.g. whether the bug is also with memory panel graphs, with cpu panel graphs, but with the bar visualization, etc. - but really, take it optional

Thanks for your attention and time.

  1. i use 3.10 version
  2. I was trying to check this situation with other graphs. Only with cpu graphs i have got a problem.
  3. I want to clarify, that a problem 100% occurs when i close lid. In this case - the screen is off. Then i can open the lid and see the screensaver (default is just clock). The problem is still there. And if press any key, you see the lockscreen with the popup for entering password. Now the problem is disappear.

What is "the bar visualization" ? Here the link on the linuxmint forum where i began to write about this problem: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=208&t=225774&p=1192319#p1192319

I tested more thoroughly. This effect is visible on the other graphs too. But to a lesser degree. If i use all graphs - after block/unblock my computer (duration 1 min) i see 1.5 load if i turn off cpu graph - 0.8 load if i turn off other graphs (left only cpu load 1/5/15) - i see 0.05 or less.

I'm still troubleshooting, still no success. Will continue, but I don't know yet where the bug is…
