(Duplicate of #14 , but keeping this ticket as it contains more content.)
Welcome to github! I agree this should be pretty straightforward, and patches are certainly welcome. :) If you're looking at getting started with git, then there's a good set of tutorials at https://help.github.com/categories/54/articles . (Although I seem to recall from previous conversations that you might already have git installed.) Creating a fork is strongly encouraged, I'm delighted when I can merge other people's changes into my tree. :)
hrmmm. I'll work on forking. I'm in school and for the next few weeks i'm tied up. I'll udpate the ticket with more info until I'm ready to implement the changes, at that point, I'll look into forking

I got my fork up, but looking at 4b, it's not as promising as I had hoped. Looks like the material values just are out of wack.
leather - 15 tough leather - 20 rigid scaleplate -25 chitinplate - 15 fur - 15 scaleplate - 15 shellplate - 15
should be VERY easy.
Determine a standardized value (probably look up 4c leather embark costs) go into the creature:leather_ whatever it's called.
update value by using [material_value:x]
or modify the value in material_templates.
as is, scaleplate is better than tough leather, but less expensive.
