According to #11 , I made the suggested changes and tested them. This pull requests prevents the crashing of OJS, when using the plugin at site level.

@edelm, these changes didn't pass the automated testing toolset; if you're using 3.3.0-x, maybe you meant to open the pull request against that branch?

I was using "main" branch in my repo as well, but I can create a new PR for branch "stable-3_3_0".
