Wireframe panel improvements based on GeoExt browser in demo (Mike P's suggestion)

See layers panel in http://suite.opengeo.org/geoexplorer/composer/ after + Add Layer

Tree panel is hard to use for large catalogs
Long layer lists should be sortable
Buttons should have icons and better placement
Separate QGIS part of tree in a new tab?
Why are styles under layers?
New Catalog panel should remember last entry even if it doesn't work

Thanks for transcribing my feedback!

One elaboration: Why are some styles under some layers (in sub-trees), but many layers have none? It couldn't have been a alternate style issue, because there was always a single style in the sub-tree.

If anyone would like more elaboration on any of these points, please let me know.

Here's an updated wireframe. Victor, I'd like to try out working on this in QT designer or PyQt4 (to understand how to build UI stuff in QGIS) so may ask you on Monday how to get set up locally. Also have some questions related to the current QGIS UI for you.
