postgis workshop - remove pgShapeLoader and focus on qgis #10

from a recent attendee (paraphrased):

"The tool is kinda clunky and very-specific. Would be nice to have the same functionality in QGIS. Would also be nice to have QGIS more involved in querying and visualization of results."

Yes, on a better visualization of query. No on QGIS as a loader, it has terrible loaders. QGIS query/vis plugins have, to date, rather sucked. My personal desire is a patched pgAdmin that includes a map panel query output. But that might be a bad idea in its own right (theory: all text editor panes become Word, all map panels become ArcView)

I only played with one loader a bit and while it did fail, it seems like that might be something we either 1) exclude from our build or 2) fix :)

As for the map/data viewing in pgAdmin, maybe one approach would be to create a plugin that supports 'open in qgis' functionality. Completely unsure of LOE but this approach greatly reduces the potential for map-panel-to-arcview style feature creep in the plugin itself.
