I currently don't have any formal experience building websites. This will be my first class on the subject but I am excited to get started and learn something new. The only experience that I can think of doing similar work is using Myspace coding. Although this was in middle school, I can remember the breakdown of using html and using themes and designs. For example, using titles, headers, and body and making sure they have the endings so it wouldn't keep going or make an error. It is really interesting to me how much I retained about building a website from using Myspace.
What software experience do you currently have?
I have taken some digital imaging classes so I am somewhat familiar with Photoshop and Illustrator. I really enjoyed learning from those classes about image quality, restoring photographs, making collages, and other projects that we had made to help me further my knowledge and build my career in graphic design.
In addition, I use Microsoft Office which includes Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. I have been using these softwares making documents, tables, and slideshows for about 14 years. I also have minimal experience with Adobe Premiere. Of course, like most of the millennials, I have experience using social media softwares like Instagram, Facebook, Tumblr, and Pinterest.
What are some of your strongest soft skills?
My strongest soft skill is communication. Communication is important in working with clients because you have to be able to work with them to solve their needs for whatever service you are going to provide them. Whether communicating to get a better idea of what my clients want or to communicate my ideas so they have a clear understanding of my work, I always make sure I am doing the best possible job. Collaboration is also another strong soft skill of mine because I like to run my ideas off people and vice versa and work with them to create the best possible design.
Where do you see yourself working after you complete your studies?
I could see myself working in a variety of different settings. I can see myself working for a company making graphic designs for products or advertisements for services. I could also see me working for myself, making designs for graphic shirts or other freelance opportunities. Either way it goes, I hope to make a healthy living doing what I love making designs and being creative.
