Maybe it's because I used the hammerhead file but I mentioned in another issue but it turns out tar was not available which obviously meant that the script did not run, it just continued without alerting me to the errors that were occurring.

I downloaded a copy of tar from somewhere and finally got something bootable.

There is no tar executable on last AOSP stripped, I propose to add to the flash-script the capability to download GNU Tar static executable and use it - I've done it manually so far... if someone in the project approve me to do that I will code it.
