GPGS Login fails with EnableSaveGames with sign in error DEBUG: Starting Auth Transition. Op: SIGN_IN status: ERROR_NOT_AUTHORIZED #2883

GPGS login fails with error "Starting Auth Transition. Op: SIGN_IN status: ERROR_NOT_AUTHORIZED" when EnableSaveGames is enabled with the PlayGamesClientConfiguration. If I remove EnableSaveGames login works fine but achievement progress is not getting saved. I tried updating the GooglPlayGames app in my device, still no luck. I am using GooglePlayGamesPlugin-0.9.64 version. I don't know what is going wrong. Is this a issue with the plugin ?

I get this error only when it is uploaded on the google play store, not when I download it as an .apk

Do I need call EnableSavedGames to save my achievements. If call EnableSavedGames I am facing the above mentioned login error. If do not call EnableSavedGames achievements progress not getting saved. Once posted achievements when I logout are reset. Is it necessary call EnableSavedGames to save the achievement progress.

Here is my login method

If I disable my EnableSavedGames() my achievements get saved and everything works. If I enable my EnableSavedGames() it doesn't log in at all.

NOTE: BUT ONLY IF I UPLOAD IT TO THE GOOGLE PLAY STORE

I faced the above error as well (although I realize now I didn't have Saved Games checked in the Play Services console).

Even after removing EnableSavedGames, my user was in an odd state where authentication was continuing to fail (there was 403 call to Drive - I assume trying to get saved game data). I was not able to login at all.

I ended up having to delete the Google Play Games data for this game in the Play Games app on my phone, which allowed my user to log in again. Adding those instructions here in case anyone facing this issue runs into a similar problem https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/9130646?co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid&hl=en
