i think would be confusing to hide -- if someone wants to catch a bus, is helpful to see that it's waiting on the stop.
to avoid the overlap prob, cool solution would be to make the sizing & layouts somehow dynamic / clever. for example if there are many busses in the same show only a single icon -- or a somenow nicely stacked set of icons / a stack icon, and then stack the numbers so that you could see which busses are at that stop.
i actually haven't seen these clusters as a problem but a quite nice viz of the fact that there are many busses at the station. but others have noted this issue also before so perhaps i'm just blind / stupid :p
hsl doesn't show them http://transport.wspgroup.fi/hklkartta/
true - i still find that's a bad design idea and can't figure out the rationale.
Closing as I can't imagine why we'd want to hide them -- improving the vis with stack or some nice way to show the bus stops & which busses are at a stop / or at the station (as in the pic) is another matter. But
Even for that the current vis in the screenshot seems good to me: you can see (now that we have num labels too) which bus is where at the station.
