@gsautter here is the issue discussed in Taxacom, that a species from New Zealand is in Iceland.
Hi Donat and Taxacom,
The attempt to automate data harvesting, without human scrutiny, continues to fill the world with biodiversity data errors. Specifically, on zenodo, for Zenascus luniger, if you click on 'specimens', you get trash:
http://tb.plazi.org/GgServer/html/03A48794FFF8FFC66F8549E97070F8F1
It is garbage for the following reasons:
(1) The species is endemic to N.Z., but the 4 specimens recorded are 2 from Iceland and the other 2 unknown, leaving Iceland as the only location on the map!
(2) Of the 4 specimens, 2 are supposedly lectotypes (no, there is no synonymy)!
(3) The treatment upon which this data is based only mentions 2 specimens (lectotype and paralectotype), both from New Zealand.
I'm not sure how widespread such problems are on zenodo, but there seems to be little reason to think that this is a rare case, is there?
Cheers, Stephen
I fixed this and replied.
there seems to be quiet some metadata missing in the summary page, eg DOI
there is an issue about UUID of a treatment is changing. Donat,
Let's clarify this shall we? The original link I gave you in this email thread, i.e.
http://tb.plazi.org/GgServer/html/03A48794FFF8FFC66F8549E97070F8 no longer works and you have had it replaced by a new link with the problem corrected! Nice and fast correction, at least! I should have web archived the old page, just to prove it existed! So, when you say that error has been fixed, you mean as a result of my Taxacom post. I have only just now noticed that you did that. It is unfortunate though that it required a new url, with the previous url (above) now broken. Since I last looked (10 min ago), you have now also fixed the county=Iceland on the other link you posted (or it has filtered through automatically).
So, yes, it does now appear that this particular problem has been fixed on Plazi in speedy fashion. Thanks for that. I didn't look at what was on GBIF until probably after the problem was corrected just now on Plazi, so I can't say if they also claimed country=Iceland at any time.
