analysing figures including phylogenies, extracting the tree and cited terminals #172

Hi Joe Miller jmiller@gbif.org One question: I am sure you know somebody who either does or can extract phylogenetic trees from figures into an open format that could be annotated and further reused.

I am asking because we are close to have a service in place that allows depositing articles into BLR, and then use a microservice to extract the text, and add the figures including caption and metadata to BLR too. We then could imagine adding an extra step that takes the picture, and extracts the phylogeny, adds it as a separate PAUP or other formatted file, and if possible link this to the specimen cited in the article which then could be submitted to GBIF in our normal existing workflow.

Any thoughts

Donat ............ Tree Snatcher is the one I could remember, There may be another but it escapes me.
