As pointed out in #40 I think it's time we start properly versioning this thing. .chemacs has been pretty complete and stable for quite some time, so I think it's fair to call what we currently have "1.0". I also went through the history and assigned versions to what seems like the main milestones so far. It's somewhat arbitrary since we never really released these versions anywhere, but I think it's good to have an overview of the history of a project in the form of a CHANGELOG instead of as a pile of commits.
I also created tags for these versions, and as mentioned in #40 introduced a chemacs-version variable.
This is all in preparation of us making necessary breaking changes to be able to support early-init.el
