DECISION: Tell Code Academies: Do NOT market CFB to your membership as a way to gain and test skills. #9

Why

We tend to get a lot of coders fresh out of code academies who don't yet have the skills needed to contribute effectively and who end up needing more mentors and guidance than we are able to give.

Efforts are not helping any parties.

How

Tell Code Academies: Do NOT market CFB to your membership as way to gain and test skills.

Proposal History

01/23/20

  1. Concern: May be worth discussing further since so many were 'neutral' and we weren't able to assess why. There wasn't a more nuanced way to express concerns.
  2. Action: Proposed and voted on, but through a thumb vote (not fist-to-five)
  3. Vote: 2 / 4 / 1 (for/neutral/against)

Maybe a mentorship program is worth looking into? I hate to leave out folks from the program in Roxbury. Also, there's more diversity in the current crop of students (in contrast with the lack of diversity of people previously in the fields.)
