A plain HTML based landing page seems a really good idea: total freedom and flexibility (at a slight cost to have to check it's links every now and then maybe?)
Here, as another example, the landing page for tech-docs at the non-profit I work for.
@gforcada I have link-checks as part of my test setup :)
There is the drawback that some links and bookmarks will break by doing so, but compared with the win in the long run this is doable.
Since we are busy with a new theme, now could/should be also the time ti maybe think about a new landing page.
Why ?
To make our docs, more appealing, and also make it easier to find the topic/category you are looking for. For new user it is not that easy to find their way to the menu on the left, maybe we should try something more visual, here some examples as ideas/input.
Personally I really like the first one [ https://docs.mesosphere.com/] the most, nice overview and clean.
Going further this road there is of course the question, does the landing-page has to be sphinx based ? How more I thing about it, how more I am convinced that we should move to a different setup, like:
One other nice plus with that approach would be that we could move content which stays the same through the versions like, writing/about and so on out of the docs, which would make it also easier, faster and less work to keep them up to date in in sync.
@polyester and anyone else any thoughts ? :)
