minor cleanup items #52

Nice job @alexshoe on the 1.0.0 release! Couple of things I noticed after it went out:

Delete the obsolete dev bundle file which is still included in the package, will shrink the package size a good deal.
Use node 16 / npm 7 or 8, so that we get a package-lock.json with "lockfileVersion": 2 (thanks @archmoj)
