It has been considered, but so far we haven't decided to do so. Personally, I
am using git-svn to interact with the subversion repository, which gives me
most of what I want for versioning local modifications. (Though I certainly see
your first point -- it would be far easier to apply patches submitted as pull
requests.)
I'm leaving this issue open for now.

SimpleSamlPhp to separate repositories (which could get their own maintainers):

If I recall correctly, Olav has been working on this lately too, and he already
has some mockup module.
Anyway, as you can see, the migration has started and is progressing well. We
are basically missing the issues, which is why we've been closing/editing so
many of them today...
