Wondering if it could be useful to link this discussion with the STS concept of "sociotechnical imaginaries" from Jasanoff:

Another potentially useful reference might be Barbrook & Cameron's "The Californian Ideology" (wiki; link) which I guess I'd position as an earlier articulation & critique of the 90s version of techno-libertarian ideology in SV?
