if you upgrade or reinstall the webservices package, you'll need to re-add systems, and that makes the id's to change. I you are running the metrics collector from cron or similar mechanisim, you'll need to update your configs in order to be able to continue polling the systems.
Hence it makes more sense to provide the name, and make the tool discover the required ID to properly poll it. #
