Wiki Clarification: Knowledge Spent #1175

Open lxkm opened 2 months ago

Based purely on the wiki, my understanding of resource gains when resetting is that any/all knowledge spent on something in the current run should count towards my gains, and I was trying to build a rough calculator of how much real-time I would need to spend to boost my knowledge to a given level for resource gains.

From brief testing though, at least gene sequencing is not being counted. A brief glance at the subreddit seems to show that ARPA expenses are also not counted (at least as of ~5 years ago).

Is there a particular reason for this? And if so, could we get a more complete explanation in the wiki for what actually counts as "knowledge spent"? (At least so others don't get frustrated/waste their time trying to work this out like I just did)

Thanks

The wiki doesn't describe this limitation, but genetic sequencing is an infinite Knowledge sink, and ARPA supercolliders are semi-infinite, so it's appropriate to exclude both categories for balance reasons. Otherwise, genetic sequencing would be far and away the highest source of knowledge spent.

Both buildings and techs, including the repeatable tech to stabilize the black hole, are counted in knowledge spent.

The wiki could definitely be more helpful about this.
