Add a Bookmark feature to enable creating clips with a single button press #826

When listening to podcasts I might be driving or working where I can't stop and take the time to make a clip, but I would like to be able to go back to that specific moment by touching a "bookmark icon" to mark that spot on the timeline of the podcast. This would allow me at a later time to go back and listen again to that portion of the podcast without a lot of wasted time searching back and forth through the podcast to find it again. The clip feature inquires more involvement than I can invest at those times. I believe the bookmarking feature would enhance the users ability to later make a clip if desired.

We received a feature request similar to this...but we may want to revise this ticket so a Bookmark is fundamentally different than a Clip. One of the main difference would be that Bookmarks are not shareable like Clips, but rather for each listener's reference.

Say I start listening at 5 minutes, say, set a 45 minute sleep timer but nod off after, say, 30 minutes. If I set a bookmark at 5 minutes, I can at least go to that point, instead of having to track backwards or start over from the beginning. Does that make sense? Another thing. I am listening to a podcast and someone makes a great observation. Say I am driving and can’t write the observation. I could bookmark the spot, and if you include the ability to make a note within the bookmark, I can locate the observation almost instantly. Of course I can’t make the note while driving, distracted driving and all, but you get my meaning.

When I'm listening to podcasts all day at work there is plenty of times where I hear something profound, insightful or informative. I would like to make a clip of that and share that (similar to a podcast quote 😉), but I don't have the time to set the timestamps, do the title, etc.

Having a little bookmark icon on the lockscreen player would be dynamite. It could make a bookmark 30 seconds in the past, and at the end of the day or the next morning you could make your clips.
