Incorrect horizontal resolution in all games #123

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Load any game
2. Use the "original" 240p video mode on a CRT monitor/TV, preferably on
component video
3. Disable any kind of video cropping

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

The image should look like an original Famicom/Nes, Wii Virtual Console NES
release, Snes9x GX, or Genesis Plus (running at 256 horizontal resolution).
The emulator displays some pixels doubled instead, suggesting that the
horizontal resolution is higher. The above examples broadcast 256 correctly
on the Wii.

Does this issue occur on FCE Ultra 0.98.12 for Windows?
N/A

What version of the product are you using? On GameCube or Wii?
3.0.2 Wii

Please provide any additional information below.
Any diagonal line will display some of the doubled pixels. In a game with a
repetitive one-pixel vertical pattern (such as the brick tiles in Super
Mario Bros.), try to scroll the screen horizontally just one pixel by
moving the character slightly. The pixel line in the pattern will
eventually be doubled.

Another way to compare it is to run a game in Snes9x GX such as Ninja
Gaiden Trilogy or Super Mario All-Stars, and compare it with its NES
counterpart; or to compare it to real Famicom/NES hardware.

This is not any kind of complaint, the emulator is truly excellent, and the
closest way to run games at correct scanrates with good (component) video
without having to mod original hardware for RGB. With this fixed and an
ideal palette it will be very hard to tell the difference (if possible at
all). Keep up the great work!

right or wrong, it's good enough for me.

Well, why not then consider adding it as an option when other higher priority
fixes/enhancements are done? Maybe the same video mode in Snes9X GX will work?

It would make the emulator look almost identical to real hardware, which would
ultimately be the goal, I would assume.

Thanks anyway.
