SMB seems slower connecting, sometimes a game loads and gets stuck on a grey screen, sometimes grey screen is only seen for a brief second

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.connecting to smb
2.loading through smb
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead? sometimes game 
(happened on metroid) loads and gets stuck on a grey screen.  sometimes 
you see the grey screen for a split second then game loads properly.

Does this issue occur on FCE Ultra for Windows? not sure as i do not use 
the windows version.

What version are you using? On GameCube or Wii? latest version 3.1.7 on 
wii. also smb seems slower on vba and snes9x as well.

Are you using the official build (from the downloads page or auto-update)?
I auto updated.

Please provide any additional information below.

this on 3.1.6
