Use images from the iconography set on the Boston brand guidelines (the Google Drive folder with experiential icons is here).

For map markers, create an L.circleImageMarker and an L.pinImageMarker that derive from Marker in that it always adds to the marker pane, regardless of which renderer is used, and from Path in that it uses path styles to draw the circle outline or pin using SVG.

For city-wide markers on the map, consider a marker with a fuzzy edge, vs a sharp edge for specific location.
For focused city-wide markers, just have a larger circle with a fuzzy border, vs a pin for location-specific.
