[SUGGESTION]: Friend Safari challenge and EVs for forms #3490

Current Behavior

There is nothing in Kiloude There is no method to EV train all of Sawsbuck, Vivillon, nor Floette forms, all who appear in the Friend Safari in the gamse

Improved Behavior

I'd like to see more fun safaris that people won't hate!

Reason for change

Detailed Description

Overview

Unlike regular Safari Zones, Friend Safari encounters would behave similar to routes, with pokemon appearing sequentially, one per second. The aim of the safari would be to catch pokemon and reach the highest catch streak. The higher the streak, the higher the reward.

Mechanics

Gems Like the games, the player will select a safari of one of the 18 pokemon types, which will in turn only house pokemon of that matching type. Given that the gimmick centers around types, the cost for entering one of these safaris will be gems of that type, and, to keep it challenging, have those gems be spent passively, in a similar fashion to flutes, once the safari has begun. An example would be 500 gems to enter, and 5 gems being used every second once inside.

Encouraging Capture Streaks With the point of the safari being a capture streak, catching pokemon will be mandatory and forced. The current streak being counted will show alongside the max streak of that run, and the max will be submitted for a prize. The overall max streak will show in a different section of the screen as to not be confused with the current one, possibly even outside the safari, on the selection display. Since gems are being spent every second, I suggest the player to be given unlimited safari balls and have the catchable pokemon be at a low enough health to be KO'ed one per second. This would encourage chasing after high streaks without players feeling like they are wasting gems and give it a competitive aspect, like the Battle Frontier. Ideally, the only time limit the player would have is however many gems they start with. They will be able to exit at any time, concluding their game and submitting their streak to their satisfaction.

Pokemon Pools If combining all the slots and pools from the games, there can be around 12 pokemon in each safari. Adding Sawsbuck and Floette forms can increase that to no more than 14. Some lacking safaris such as Ghost can include Pumpkaboo's forms to round out the encounter rates, but Dragon will remain the smallest pool with 7.

Vivillon One pokemon that is unique to the Friend Safari is Vivillon. Adding all its forms to the Bug safari would bloat it to a ridiculous size and skewing the odds of capture streaks. As this will be potentially one of the few places it and its forms will be EV trainable, I recommend treating it like Unown, and have its forms rotate through the Bug safari daily, after their quest has been completed. Due to the nature of safaris and their modal however, players won't be able to tell which pattern has spawned. If necessary, an NPC could report the daily pattern or even a weekly prediction of up to 7 forms if you'd like to keep some mystery.

Potential Prizes Any form of currency, such as BP or eventual Contest Points, that scale with the streak An amount of fourth generation berries of the safari's type (eg. Tanga for Bug safari), as one-time prizes

Optional Details The games feature higher shiny odds for pokemon found here Due to it being a catching game, EVs can be modified to not give as much as regular captures The games do not feature safari balls. If preferable, players can be made to bring their own balls instead of relying on safari ones

This particular idea is rejected. It is a little too involved of a mechanic for the proposed reasoning. Furthermore, implementing Safaris in this way is more or less a route you pay to use - We would like to keep mechanics separate and distinct.

Improving the Safari Zone needs to come from improving the core mechanic, not creating parallel mechanics that try to emulate parts of it. Stay tuned on upcomming Safari Zone content, we have some loose plans on not only more uses for the Safari Zone, but mechanics that use the infrastructure.

How exciting! I shall wait with bated breath!
