This seems to be a broader incompatibility issue with Qt 5.12 (possibly earlier versions as well, but definitely at least 5.12). I have experienced the same segfault when compiling against qt5-static 5.12 on msys2/Windows. Seems like the only solution for now is using an earlier version.
The segfault happens whether qt5.12 is installed from bottle or compiled from source (--HEAD), so the issue is not related to any static build.
@Dabomstew just curious the last release build, which qt version did you use to build that, if you can remember?
I accidentally upgraded the PC I was using to build it to 5.12, so I don't actually know what version it had originally. I then downgraded it to 5.6, which definitely works. Another PC also builds it fine with 5.8.
Ah, that's useful info. I just tried 5.11.2 and that didn't work so I'll just do some bisecting until I find the latest version that works. Thanks!
Just reporting in, qt version 5.10.1 works. There may be earlier patch versions of 5.11 that work but I'm not going to try those out...
Thanks for the report. There's no obvious entry on the Qt 5.11 changelog that would account for it not working with GSR regardless of platform, unfortunately. But given that the port from Qt4 to 5 was a bit of a rushed job in the first place (mostly relying on Qt4 to 5 not changing much), it's possible that one minor change not worthy of being on the changelog broke it. For now I think we'll just stick to building on earlier versions of Qt 5 as there doesn't seem to be any significant reason to upgrade.
Update 11+ months after the fact -- for macOS specifically, this looks like it was a bug in Qt 5.12.0 and 5.12.1, per this issue.
The most recent versions of Qt on macOS (5.14.1) and Debian/Ubuntu (5.12.4) should build properly and run without crashing now. We still had crashing issues on MSYS2 for Windows with Qt 5.11+ at last check though.
Closed now that #60 is merged.
