How can this be adapted to use it on other system?

What are the prerequisites. Must this reside on the same machine as TVHeadend is running? Can you give some help.

I wouldd like to use this for my Mac/iPad while TVheadend is running on a NAS.

Yes, it must run on the same machine as Tvheandend, and can be used/accessed across the network.
