I noticed that leaving the $priority to the default value of 5000 will result in the webapp not changing colours. If you set $priority = 500; everything works as it should.

Technically a priority of 5000 will also work. The issue is that the dispmanxgrabber uses a higher priority (1000). Therefor a priority of 5000 will only work when the grabber is switched off (for example if you disable grabbing in the XBMC menu). A lower priority will be clearer for new users though.
