After asking several users with the same problem, I have compiled some features that all cases seem to have in common:

• SO: Windows 10
• Browsers: Chrome 116.x and Firefox 117.0 (64-bit)
• Network: Acala (and Karura according to @StrawberryFlavor)

Other comments:

• One user reported the problem using only one account of his Polkadot extension. The other account worked without problems.
