Examples of Polyform in production #77

Closed erlend-sh closed 12 months ago

I'll soon have some examples of Polyform adoption in projects I contribute to. I'd love to know of other "live" examples out there.

I recently stumbled upon this one:

https://www.epplussoftware.com/LicenseOverview/

It was very helpful to see the whole purchasing process of it laid out like that.

@erlend-sh thanks for that link!

@heathermeeker, do I remember that you were pulling together a "showcase" page for polyformproject.org?

heathermeeker commented 4 years ago

I have a draft adopter's page. But currently no one is on it.

heathermeeker commented 4 years ago

Clearly there have been adopters. Two questions: how best to find them, and how much formality we want around putting their name on the adopter's page. Presumably they would like being there, so we don't need anything complicated.

@heathermeeker based on experience with paritylicense.com and prosperitylicense.com, I'd say be proactive about finding projects, but reach out to them before adding.

Perhaps we set up showcase.polyformproject.org as a repository here on GitHub, so devs can open pull requests, and link to it from the WordPress site? I am still all for using WordPress for polyformproject.org.

Feel free to use EPPlus as a showcase and let me know if you need any additional information from us.

We just announced that we are moving to Polyform license from Apache v2 https://blog.byte.builders/post/relicensing/

heathermeeker commented 4 years ago

Thanks! is it OK to put your name and logo and a link to https://blog.byte.builders/post/relicensing/ on our adopter's page?

tamalsaha commented 4 years ago

Sure, @heathermeeker !

tamalsaha commented 4 years ago

@heathermeeker , I noticed that you added ByteBuilders to the Adopters page. That is our hosted service name. We would like you use display our Company name "AppsCode Inc." and logo instead. You can find necessary information here: https://appscode.com/

Thank you!

I made the change. Please take a look at let me know if it looks right now.

Thanks. It looks right.

I finally published the interview I did a few weeks back with the makers of EPPlus:

https://blog.meilisearch.com/value-in-open-2-epplus/

It's quite the inspiring story. Thanks to their adoption of the PolyForm NonCommercial license, their 2-person company is entirely self-sustaining 💰 🎉

kemitchell commented 4 years ago

@erlend-sh, thanks so much for sharing!

We have an adopters page going at https://polyformproject.org/adopters/, though as yet I don't think we've done any proactive reaching out to adopting companies about listing them there.

I am going to close for now, but folks should feel free to reach out about new projects to list or improvements to the adopters page anytime.
