Stickers! #7

Closed SomeoneWeird closed 9 years ago

SomeoneWeird commented 10 years ago

So, with CampJS coming up (again!) - I'm going to look at buying stickers, seeing as we left it too late last time. If anyone has any design skills and wants to try their hand at another logo (also see here) - just post it.

Here are some variations on the theme. Fonts used: Bebas Neue, Helvetica Neue. polyhack-logos

damncabbage commented 10 years ago

Nice!

Trying a variation on your No. 5 concept: 38bc5918-0766-11e4-8228-4918f8070859_2

(Pardon the edit; all I've done is rotate the hexagon.)

SomeoneWeird commented 10 years ago

oooh, all very pretty

stones commented 10 years ago

@damncabbage I like that one as well. Thanks for pointing out a variation i didn't even try ;)

nicholasf commented 10 years ago

Great stuff.

I liked the idea of multiple polygons (sporto even had one with three). Framing a single polygon around 'poly' doesn't click with me - as it's very literal. The idea of multiple polygons intersecting represented the channel theme quite well, I thought.

stones commented 10 years ago

@nicholasf thanks for the feedback. I will mess around with multiple polys later. I would draw your attention to '6 sided cutout middle alt' which does have 2 polys in it, just really subtly.

What are your thoughts about the Voronoi ones? they have many polys in them, but maybe they need to be more noticible. maybe highlight a few polys with a different color.

nicholasf commented 10 years ago

Thanks, yeh, I hadn't picked up on the hexagon idea - could we use colours or lines to indicate that it held different shapes?

The fundamental theme is an intersection between a multiplicity of shapes - indicates the shared interest theme of a polyglot channel. So, however we can elicit that. :)

SomeoneWeird commented 10 years ago

Any more news on this? I might have to order them soon to get them for CampJS

nicholasf commented 10 years ago

@SomeoneWeird I dont really have time to pursue it. Want to take it over? Just so long as it's a crowd pleaser, I guess. Stickers would be terrific, my lappy has none, currently.

sporto commented 10 years ago

I vote for this: polyhack v04

+1 ( I kinda want the # to be square as the the asymmetry looks unintentional)

damncabbage commented 10 years ago

+1 for stones' comment.

(Square #, same height as either the corners on the hexagon, or the capital P. Those two elements are different heights, which is fine, but you don't want to go and add a third element with a different height.)

SomeoneWeird commented 10 years ago

Can someone do these changes so we can see what they look like? :) On 12/09/2014 1:24 PM, "Rob Howard" notifications@github.com wrote:

Hrm, I don’t agree, as then it’s no longer the # character, but something else. And the # perfectly symbolises the channel’s address, in the logo.

Unless I’m missing something? We are talking about making the # character symmetrical, right?

DON’T TELL ME WHAT IT STANDS FOR!!! :)

I don’t think that squaring the hash will confuse people as it is the equivalent of using and italicised font. I lean more towards it being representative more than literal.

But i will mock it up for discussion.

I couldn't work out the fonts that were so, this is bebas again

logo-a logo-b

nicholasf commented 10 years ago

I like both of these, and @sporto 's latest. Nice work @stones :)

I'd really like it if we chose one, or selected a smaller group to decide which from amongst these three candidates.

nicholasf commented 10 years ago

What if we changed the background colour of the polygon to green (symbolic for 'ok' or 'go') rather than red ('error' or 'stop')?

stones commented 10 years ago

I prefer sport's fonts, but i am not sure what they are. Some greens.

nicholasf commented 10 years ago

Can we make this pop a little more?

stones commented 10 years ago

logo-e logo-f logo-g logo-h

nicholasf commented 10 years ago

The top (darkest) one. :)

damncabbage commented 10 years ago

@stones' second (lightest) one. :+1:

nicholasf commented 10 years ago

At this point we could randomize it from any of the greens in the latest 4 and I wouldnt mind. ;)

stones commented 10 years ago

I would like to hear @sporto's opinion.

sporto commented 10 years ago

I like the dark green so +1 for that one, font for the word is good, I was actually trying to copy @stones design. But I would prefer slanted hash. Or maybe the straigh one with a different font, that one above kind of looks like train tracks.

nicholasf commented 10 years ago

Slanted hash +1.

polyhack v04

nicholasf commented 10 years ago

THIS IS IT!

stones commented 10 years ago

I am still opposed to the slant on the # but i am probably not going to campjs so, what do i care!

I do think @sporto's font is better.

stones commented 10 years ago

Colours too node? ![Uploading logo-i.png . . .]()

huh, didn't upload

kvanbere commented 10 years ago

FWIW, I like the original in the dark red with the slanted #. That rusty color feels trustworthy.

nicholasf commented 10 years ago

There’s no reason we couldn’t pick, say, four colours, and have different versions of the basic design.

@pomke

tjstebbing commented 10 years ago

take my moneys :O

tjstebbing commented 10 years ago

oh that was to me, sure! I can setup more tshirts at that thingy, I need the vector art

nicholasf commented 10 years ago

Im curious as to whether people like the usual # or the straightened one? I keep going back and forth. @SomeoneWeird, @pomke, etc?

It’d be great if we could finalise it today and have one or two versions (if we want multiple colours).

I think I prefer the slanted one because it looks less like we're miniature railway enthusiasts

tjstebbing commented 10 years ago

Not that there's anything wrong with miniature railways, if that happens to be your thing
