In the notation they seem to be one unit, but this is related to issue #56. However this is really a separate issue (I don't see it at the moment or it has not been added yet): for multi-stave parts, the dynamics need to be placed onto the correct staff. In this case the MusicXML-to-Humdrum converter is not moving the ff to the bottom staff.
