Horrible display in Kubuntu ggl-gtk and ggl-qt #123

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. launch ggl-gtk or ggl-qt
2. look at tray icon
3. look at any gadget

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
- no translucency/transparency in tray icon
- gadgets take approx. 30 seconds before they respond to click/hover/drag
- no gadget translucency/transparency when selected

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
google-gadgets-for-linux-0.9.1
Kubuntu Hardy Heron 8.04
2.6.24-18-generic #1 SMP Wed May 28 20:27:26 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

Please provide any additional information below.
-translucency/compositing enabled
-pics attached

You desktop system must support translucency and compositing too, which 
requires a
composite manager, such as compiz or xcompmgr.

Qt's tray icon is ugly when compositing is enabled. We will fix it when we find 
a
proper (not_that_hacky) way.
