I'm getting this problem too using:
1. multiple Netbeans 6.5 Dev Releases, all after Feb 20, 2009
2. java version "1.6.0_03-p3"
3. git version 1.6.0.1

Mark relation with issue 30 and issue 36.

I haven't looked into this yet, but it seems that we might have to
provide different versions for each major NetBeans release.

It would probably be worth looking into setting up an update center
either in the /svn/ area of the google code project or on nbgit.org.
I have created a separate issue for this (issue 37).

@kfl62g: I have not been able to find any 7.0M1 on netbeans.org. Given the date
2008.12.18 it looks more like that either "6.7M1" was meant, since it was
released on
2008.12.17 according to http://wiki.netbeans.org/NetBeans67 or the "Dev"
version was
meant. Can you please confirm this, thanks?

6.7 Used to be called 7.0. The NetBeans dev team recently changed it. In
general,
though, the problem applies to all recent development versions.

# andrew.m.kasper is right :)
# the problem applies to all recent development versions

The latest, working with nbgit ,development version was dated 2008.12.18 and
called
7.0M1 when was released. (7.0 was renamed to 6.7 due to netbeans release policy)

Also experiancing the same problem - there is more info here, including an
explanation on how to compile it for 6.9 and even a compiled version -

http://blogs.sun.com/tor/entry/nbgit_for_netbeans_6_9

though I have also found 6.9 to be a bit buggy, one has to wonder if it's
release was bumped to get the new owners branding on the start page...

Thanks to the guys at Norbye's blog this is running fine for me otherwise...
though I'm personally still using 6.8 while the creases are removed from 6.9...

New .nbms are available for NetBeans 6.{8,9}.

Merging this issue into the most recent "Can't install in 6.X dev version"
