Turns out this is only used (AFAICT) to set the current index when the current sample is changed by clicking on something in the main display area. But that's an essential function, so we can't get rid of the index, and Suite is clearly where it belongs.
In the longer term, I need to factor the whole "current sample" concept out of Suite and into PuffinApp (or some successor thereof). Suite shouldn't provide more than getIndexBySample and getSampleByIndex.
