@jemc so, would it be reasonable of me to assume, given that with the --static flag passed that this is failing to link, that something is bad with our alpine-release docker images?

Do you have any idea what needs to be done to address?

Is the use of clang required?

It appears that --static is broken? I could use eyes to make sure that I'm not doing something very off when I use it.
