first off, thank you in advance! I followed the steps but arrived at this error message when actually trying to connect to the iPad via wifi. Does the patch still work, or is it something wrong on my side? I haven't tried a wired connection because I don't have the cable but I just ordered it. is there a way to have it working wireless?

the mac and the iPad take turns flashing black screens and the mac comes back with an error message while the iPad is stuck in a black screen

Try to reset thrust settings of your iPad. Make sure, that you can access to it in Finder. It helped for me

I am using the same Macbook Pro as you and I faced the same issue on my Ipad 7th gen. The only way I was able to make it work was by connecting via USB. Not ideal, but it works, although the screen flickers as other user have pointed out in other threads. It's usable though.
