How did you upgrade to 21.04? (Fresh install / Upgrade)

Upgrade from 21.04 via command line

Related Application and/or Package Version (run apt policy $PACKAGE NAME):

Issue/Bug Description: Cannot select the empty bottom workspace on the workspaces overview

Steps to reproduce (if you know): Click Workspaces button to bring up overview

Expected behavior: Ability to select empty workspace at the bottom to open a new workspace

Other Notes:

isantop commented 2 years ago

This is working correctly for me (clicking on the last (empty) workspace). Does it happen with a specific number of workspaces?

twoprimehydroxyl commented 2 years ago

I had 3 populated workspaces open. When I opened up an additional workspace, I could no longer click on or scroll through any workspaces, but I could still change workspaces with Ctrl+Super+Up/Down.

I rebooted and it seems to be working at the moment.

jmbuhr commented 2 years ago

I have the same issue.

WatchMkr commented 2 years ago

I'm also having difficulty reproducing this one.

Does it occur after updates and rebooting?

If so, how are accessing the Workspaces view when this occurs (dock icon, top bar button, keyboard shortcut) and do you have multiple monitors?

leviport commented 2 years ago

I think I'm seeing the bug on my install. In the Workspaces view, the only two workspaces I can switch to with a mouse click are the first two. I am, however, still able to scroll through all my workspaces by putting my mouse cursor over the workspace picker and scrolling with my mouse/touchpad.

The problem occurred on install, but hasn't come up after rebooting and updates. I was selecting the Workspaces view with the top bar button. I am only using a single monitor, through a DisplayPort cable on a GTX 760.

After rebooting and updates, I could select all workspaces, but the windows in the workspace overview are overlapping with the workspace previews. I have my dock set to the left edge, so I don't know if that's the problem.

The problem was defintely on install as leviport mentioned. After install, Slack and Firefox automatically opened (as usual on my system). I clicked the Workspaces button to bring up the workspaces and I couldn't select the bottom empty workspace. I opened up two terminals and put them into a new workspace using Ctrl + Super + Down.

The windows in the Workspace overview at this time showed the current workspace's window and the bottom edges of the windows for the workspace above the current one. When I opened upSpotify and put it into a new Workspace using Ctrl + Super + Down, I again clicked the Workspaces button and tried to scroll through and select a workspace but I couldn't click on anything.

I decided to reboot and the initial problems went away. I'm not near my Pop!_OS box to do any further troubleshooting, but I hope this helps!

@twoprimehydroxyl Please be careful not to mix multiple issues into one. Window previews appearing over the workspace picker is being tracked in https://github.com/pop-os/gnome-shell-extension-vertical-overview/issues/4. I was also seeing where the bottoms of window previews from the workspace above are showing in the selected workspace, but installing updates seems to have fixed it for me. If it appears again, a fresh issue should be opened. Tracking individual bugs in separate issues makes it much easier to fix them.

twoprimehydroxyl commented 2 years ago

@leviport My bad. I only mentioned it because it seems the two issues seem to happen at the same time.

This morning I booted up and had the window overlapping the workspaces problem, but was able to select the bottom workspace. I ran apt-get update and apt-get upgrade, rebooted, and now I can't select the bottom workspace again, and now the windows are not overlapping the workspaces but I am seeing the bottoms of the windows of the above workspace again.

@twoprimehydroxyl Hmm, seems we should probably open a new issue for it then. I can do so if you prefer, although I'll probably need to borrow your screenshot for it since I haven't seen it happen since the first time.

Back to the original topic though -- I'm now able to select all workspaces with my mouse on 21.10. Are you still able to reproduce the original issue you reported?

twoprimehydroxyl commented 2 years ago

@leviport I was able to select all the workspaces before running apt-get upgrade about 2 hours ago.

Now I can select the top two workspaces with the mouse, but not the bottom 3 (I have 4 populated workspaces, as in the screenshot). I can scroll through the workspaces with the wheel on my mouse, which was something I wasn't able to do when I first opened the issue.

twoprimehydroxyl commented 2 years ago

@leviport I left my computer and came back, unlocked it, and now I have the windows overlapping the workspace preview and I can once again select all workspaces with the mouse. Maybe there's something happening after letting the screen lock and unlocking it?

@twoprimehydroxyl Like I said, that bug is being tracked in https://github.com/pop-os/gnome-shell-extension-vertical-overview/issues/4

There are two other distinct bugs we're talking about here. One is the original bug mentioned in this thread, which is the workspaces below the 2nd in the list not being selectable with the mouse.

The other is the bottoms of windows on the workspace above being shown on the current workspace. I'm currently trying to find a way to make this happen reliably, but once I do, I'll open another issue for that bug.

leviport commented 2 years ago

The window preview from previous workspace bug is now being tracked here: https://github.com/pop-os/beta/issues/249

twoprimehydroxyl commented 2 years ago

@leviport Thanks. I'll post thing relating to that bug there.

In regards to not being able to select workspaces: I restarted my PC and the issue popped up again (could only select workspaces 1 and 2 with the mouse, but not any other workspaces). I let the PC go to sleep for ~30 minutes, unlocked the desktop, and now I am able to select all workspaces with the mouse again.

These issues have been addressed and fixed. Please let us know if you are still seeing the problem and we can reopen.
