Scaling of apps/font sizes does not work on high-res displays, multi-display setup when using tiling #258

How did you upgrade to 21.10? (Fresh install / Upgrade)

Issue/Bug Description:

I run a dual display setup:

1920x1080 (17" internal laptop display) 3840x2160 (32" Viewsonic, set as main screen)

After upgrade to 21.10, firefox and other apps scale badly on first launch: Screenshot

Steps to reproduce (if you know):

EDIT: this also occurs with some other apps and sporadically. Always fixed by scaling to fullscreen and back (Super-M twice).

Expected behavior:

firefox starts up with correct scaling

Other Notes:

I run the nouveau driver on Nvidia Quadro K4100M

xrandr output has the correct resolutions and display sizes:

EDIT: This also occurs on a fresh install of 21.10 using the NVIDIA drivers (nvidia-driver-418-server). So it seems to be unrelated to the driver.

This happened to me on my Dell XPS 15 9500 running the intel iGPU and only the laptop display (1920x1200). I experienced the issue with JetBrains Rider.

I did not experience this issue when running the dGPU (Nvidia) with an external Dell 38" Ultrawide.

Hitting Super + M seems to fix the issue.

EDIT: The app is outside the Active Hint border and the application menu bar is missing until I hit Super + M.

EDIT: Another example. Left was fixed with Super + M, then I opened another instance (right) and font is all distorted. This is same screen of the same app, just a new instance. Screenshot from 2021-10-28 20-14-42

i have the same issue noticed that with Telegram - Brave - vlc Single monitor 1920 x 1080 Intel UHD 620 Gpu

Did a few more tests:

Could it be a race condition when apps start up and pop-shell requests screen res and size?

happens for me when using qbitorrent and elisa so far, also on a 4k monitor + 1080 multi setup.

I think this issues has been fixed, but please let us know if you still have a problem and we can reopen.
