I was trying to drag all the applets into the Start Segment... wish you had move all applets option in the empty Segments.

Anyway, I was trying to drag each one, one-by-one over to the Start Segment, when suddenly my dock had no Applets at all.

Start Segment, Center Segment, and End Segment were gone. I think I was dragging from the text part of the applet... or moving towards where the text was... maybe I dropped it before it entered Start (my mouse button has been acting up). The only solution was to reset default settings. Cannot reproduce as of yet.

Looks like I dropped it on the Center Segment. By the way, changing Applets order does not allow you to reset to default. You must change some other setting in Dock for that button to appear.

I experienced this same bug and have found reproduction steps.

If you drop an applet outside of the "Drop applet here" box it will break the applet settings and just display the word "Unknown".

To fix this you either need to reset the dock or in the case where you have not added additional applets thus making the reset button not show up, you can toggle "Extend dock to screen edges" to fix the applet settings.

This bug is not present in the panel settings, only the dock settings. In panel settings the applet will just stay in the original position if dropped outside of the box.
