I figured out which setting was causing this bug 🥁, it's the "Focus follows cursor" setting. And just as I suspected, this bug doesn't happen on an empty workspace even with the setting still on.
I like having that setting on, is there a way to have that turned on and not have this issue?

When I click on any applet icon in the panel, it opens, and I move my mouse towards it but in the gap between the panel and the applet itself, it loses focus and the applet disappears.
I tried tweaking the settings of the panel, making it larger, not auto hide, etc. and none seem to work. I've had this issue for a little over a week now, I can't pin which commit this happened in but that's a general estimate. I updated to the latest commits today but it didn't get fixed.
