Poor performance in directories with many files (e.g. /bin)

It seems like redrawing the window is slow when there are many files in the directory (order of magnitude of around 7000). Here's a non-exhaustive list of things that get slow because of this:

• Box selection
• Typing text in for example the rename dialog, path bar, or search bar
• Initializing dragging the window (it jumps to the cursor after a delay, menubar styling is also delayed)
• Resizing the window vertically
• Resizing the window horizontally

Scrolling is slow as well when many files are present.

This seems to happen in folders even with 1-2 files
