I can confirm that the deadkeys don't work US international with deadkey either.
Here is some info on my system, ask if you need more.. (I am not an expert with command-line configuration, so I don't actually know what you need).
I just saw that you built cosmic-term from alacritty, so I built the latest version of it to test if the deadkeys works or not. They do.
