Part of our standard testing for GNOME Shell and Mutter updates is Pop Shell regression testing. These updates cause a regression that creates empty space in the tree and overlapping windows. To recreate, try to move a window into a space that's too small (easy to do with Nautilus or Disk Usage Analyzer on a 1080p display.) With the current versions of GNOME Shell and Mutter, the window is placed in the requested location even if it doesn't fit, with no empty space in the tree and less overlap: https://www.dropbox.com/s/mejhqnxry0wd35v/gnome-shell-pr49-screencast2.mkv?dl=0
